Political Process

Today, I just wanted to share how I feel about the presidential election process.  It amazes me that we have come to such underhanded and awful behavior in order to win a position that should be based partly on our experience in the political arena and partly on what and how we plan to meet the needs of the American people.  I started off with the political process when we were choosing the party nominees and hoped that we would be able to gather information and make an informed choice.  Since the Democratic nomination of Barack Obama, I have seen more character assassination, finger pointing and downright disrespect just to “win” votes.  I believe that this election has disrespected the American people more than at any other time because they assume that all of us would be okay with operating this way. The media gurus have not assisted in this election because though they bring us the news, they fail to be and stay objective.  Yes, there are quite a few incidents when the media has expressed their preference.

It would have been a whole lot better to just see what each candidate stood for in his own right.  As they would share specifically what they do and how they would better the economic situation along with the other issues we face, it would have been great. I know every human being is not perfect but I don’t understand how, when people run for office, we seem to be expecting perfection.  The media and others go through a process of tearing down the candidates based on the negative aspects of their past.  True enough, past choices should be an important consideration when we are choosing someone to lead us.  However, the fact that we expect the candidate’s past should be free and clear of any wrong choices, any moments of weakness, any incidents that would cause us to question their humanity, is ridiculous.

I understand that our past is a big part of who we are, but the past is a development and evolution of who we are becoming.  There are times when I have made choices based on incorrect information.  Is someone else responsible for that?  Of course not!  But am I supposed to be slammed for the rest of my life because of it.

When are we going to be truly mature and make decisions based on real information, understanding, right opportunity and ability?

I know that whoever wins the election has a massive job ahead. Unfortunately, people will blast this new president whatever job he does because they’ll expect him to fix everything that’s wrong in four years.  There’s no way he can and people will say they won’t blast this person, but of course they will.  And on top of that, we’ll have the media to perpetuate the madness.

I am really tired of the negative ads, comments, etc.  The ads seem to vex my spirit greatly and instead of wanting to hear what needs to be said, I want to turn off the television or the radio.  At this point, I will just be glad when the election process is done.  And yes, I will vote.  I was just hoping it would be more of a pleasurable experience.
